Sous Chef Job Description

Join our team as a Sous Chef and oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation and efficient production.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to lead our kitchen operations and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and morale.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Train, coach, and develop a team of hourly kitchen employees
  • Manage performance metrics and provide regular progress reports to the Executive Chef
  • Maintain upkeep of the kitchen, including equipment and inventory
  • Ensure the kitchen operates with the highest health and safety standards
  • Track and manage food storage, rotation, and quality
  • Work closely with other departments to execute process improvement initiatives
  • Make in-flight adjustments to ensure production stays on track
  • Work in all areas of the production facility, including refrigerated areas
  • Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed
Requirements:
  • 2+ years' experience as a Sous Chef in a commissary kitchen with high-volume food preparation
  • Computer literate; comfortable with Microsoft Office / Google Suite applications
  • Ability to lead, train, and develop a large group of employees and manage an active kitchen
  • A problem solver's mentality; ability to see problems as opportunities
  • Strong communication skills; ability to adjust communication style to different audiences
  • Ability to multitask and track/monitor recipe development, maintaining efficiency, and delivering on time
  • No/low ego; ability to take direction/feedback well
  • Comfortable with being exposed to hot, cool, and/or cold environments
