Distribution Analyst

Job Summary:

The Distribution Analyst role at WestJet blends planning, data analysis, creative thinking, technology, and managerial reporting. We are seeking a dynamic collaborator who is comfortable working across the entire scope of our distribution department, including metas, GDS, and OTA site displays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Industry and Competitive Analysis: Promote proactive analysis, insights, and recommendations to steer performance adjustments favorable to WestJet by analyzing market trends and the competitive landscape to inform distribution strategies.
  • Risk and Opportunity Identification: Identify risks and opportunities related to distribution initiatives and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Presentation: Draft stimulus plans complimented with the analytics, forecasting, and cost modeling that complement our business objectives.
  • Channel Optimization: Develop and implement initiatives to optimize channel margin by improving revenue and/or reducing the cost of sale.
  • Channel Design and Implementation: Oversee the design, development, implementation, testing, and validation of changes to indirect booking channels.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., marketing, sales, IT) to align distribution strategies with overall business goals.
  • Regular Reporting: Establish regular reporting including POS (point of sale), sales channel, and overall cost of sale performance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the review and presentation of monthly revenue and performance variances.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including revenue management, IT, sales, and marketing, to ensure cohesive strategies and seamless integration of distribution technologies.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Statistics, or Economics is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years in an Analyst type role with a solid understanding of business processes and commercial partnership framework, preferably in an airline environment.
  • Skills:
    • Understanding of airline fares, rules, taxes, surcharges, and pricing components is an asset.
    • Knowledge of Distribution Strategy, airline/travel vendors, and third-party distribution models is an asset.
    • Experience managing/ implementing products or initiatives.
    • Strong data and analytical skills with a track record of providing strategic recommendations.
    • High-level strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to convert big ideas into reality.
    • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Strong quantitative and research skills with proven data interpretation capabilities.
    • Intense attention to detail and quality control with a strong work ethic.
    • Passion for knowledge sharing, learning, and teamwork.
    • Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
    • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
    • Effective collaboration skills with diverse groups.
    • Proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel.
    • Proven ability to manage projects and implement change efficiently.
