The Opportunity

Strategic Objectives

•      Provide leadership and strategic direction for Invest Alberta regarding the planning, development and management of the Global Partnerships unit.

•      Support global engagement and partnerships by promoting and enhancing Invest Alberta’s profile domestically and internationally, increasing awareness of Alberta as an important investment destination and promoting the opportunities in Alberta’s priority sectors.

•      Building and maintaining strategic relationships with global service providers/partners (namely government organizations, legal/accounting/real estate firms, chambers of commerce, and associations) where significant new deal flow can be generated:

o  Develop global engagement by country monthly, ensuring that leads generated from partner organizations increase on a quarterly basis enhancing Invest Alberta’s overall deal flow.

o  Work with the research team to develop, implement and continuously engage with tracking mechanisms to measure impact.

•      Working with the broader team, identifying and addressing opportunities and challenges and ensuring coordinated approaches to related Invest Alberta messaging, outreach, communications and marketing strategies.

•      Other duties as assigned.

•      Foster collaboration and cultivate professional and career growth of team members by encouraging and providing professional development opportunities.

•      Lead a team of professional staff committed to developing and administering excellent global partnerships.

•      Managing the complexities of working collaboratively with all staff representing the interests of Alberta, and with other Provincial and local representatives in the market. 

•      Supporting the initiatives and objectives of Invest Alberta by working closely and collaboratively with Invest Alberta on:

o  gathering and disseminating information and market intelligence on agreed upon sectors of priority;

o  knowledge of trends and opportunities in the local economy (including foreign policy initiatives), and

o  establishing local contacts and providing introductions.

•      Developing and maintaining collaborative and consultative relationships and networks with senior representatives of Invest Alberta, other Alberta ministries, foreign governments, the private sector, and stakeholder organizations with interests in Invest Alberta’s mandate.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Minimum 6 years of risk, compliance, or governance experience.
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s economic strengths and sectors.
  • Solid relationship building skills and an existing network relevant to IAC's mandate.
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of international business, social protocol, and cultural etiquette.
  • Experience working in a commercial setting, crown corporation or government agency environment, especially involving large scale investment.
