**UCalgary International **is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Manager, Strategic Global Partnerships**.

Reporting to the Senior Director, International, the Manager, Strategic Global Partnerships is responsible for leading a team focused on strategic partnership development, international academic agreement negotiations, global projects and initiatives, and data management. This role also includes overseeing recruitment, staff development, performance management, retention, discipline, and termination of support staff.

The Manager, Strategic Global Partnerships will be responsible for developing services to better support and further enhance these efforts at the University of Calgary in pursuit of our Academic and Global Engagement Plans. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing working relationships with relevant groups and individuals to coordinate services and build a community of practice.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Responsible for establishing a clear central point of contact for academics and global partners wishing to engage in collaborative international agreements. This may involve brokering relationships, soliciting faculty priorities, evaluating partnership opportunities, and communicating expertise with global partners.
- Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with external organizations for the purposes of developing international academic cooperation/partnerships.
- Advises on programming related to academic partnerships and strategic initiatives for missions and delegations as needed.
- Advises and leads matchmaking of international partnerships understanding internal capacity and intel on regional priorities and approaches in various countries. Facilitating communications, negotiations, development, and maintenance of activities and projects that align with the Global Engagement Plan and internal capacity.
- Undertakes effective outreach to global partners and other stakeholders to promote University of Calgary expertise and build academic partnerships. Work with facilities to build consistent and sustainable approaches for collaboration with international partners and agencies.
- Provide information on policy and procedures for the development and vetting of new international agreements and contracts, and renewal of existing agreements. Providing knowledge and background on education systems, Government policy, economic and security issues.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with international agencies to gain expert knowledge and to develop productive relationships, communicate and coordinate these efforts with relevant academic and administrative teams.
- Responsible for tracking activity in the academic partnership sphere and developing appropriate methods for reporting on impact. This will include benchmarking activities and development of an evaluation framework to track and report on success of the team.
- Manage and finalize a diverse portfolio of active legal files to ensure both individual and unit goals are achieved. Collects, maintains, and supports analysis using appropriate performance metrics to monitor international academic activities within the University.
- Provides information on policy and procedures for the development and vetting of new international agreements and contracts, and renewal of existing agreements.
- Works with the Agreements and Contracts Senior Specialist on the development and negotiation of international cooperation agreements and ensure that agreements follow the formal review process.
- Recommends priorities for areas of responsibility; for annual and long-term activity, based on the strategic goals and objectives of UC International.
- Recruits staff and develops an effective team for Global Academic Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives that provides direction, advice, and assistance to University of Calgary faculties, departments, units, and institutes to meet their expressed international goals.
- Performance management of unionized support staff.
- Supports the professional development of staff in building skills for partnership and agreement acumen by seeking out internal and external opportunities for learning and networking.
- Develops and maintains resources that will improve the quality of International academic partnerships across the University.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Post-secondary education in a related field; Master's preferred
- 7+ years of direct experience in partnership development, or international education, working in a post-secondary institution preferred.
- Experience and knowledge in the operation of a post-secondary education environment.
- Ability to act decisively and to exercise a high degree of initiative and sound judgment.
- Previous experience managing in a unionized environment, is an asset.
