Position Summary: 

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and management support of the operational functions and performance for the area. The Operations Coordinator works closely with the operational team to ensure alignment with all functional groups, Safety, Manufacturing Environment, and Land to drive communication and consistency. Primary focus is optimizing available resources and leveraging operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production. Primary focus is ECAN Safety Policy’s, Performance and Execution. Weekly analysis of operational effectiveness and efficiency with a goal to identify areas of concern and/or opportunity. The Operations Coordinator is responsible for providing key operational data and analysis for use in operational decision making for the market area. He/she will be responsible for information regarding operational cost & variance analysis and forecast preparation, consumption tracking (i.e. labor, fuel, and energy), capital spending status, and key performance indicators. This position will ensure processes are in place and effectively utilized across the market area (i.e. common operating reports (CORe), consumption analysis, standard operating procedures (SOP’s). This role is critical to ensuring that best practices are implemented, utilized and supported. It will ensure that data and analysis is available to assist the Operations Manager and Site / Area Managers to effectively execute their jobs in a professional and informed manner. The Operations Coordinator will work closely with ECAN Safety and Manufacturing team to ensure consistency and best practice across the market.

 
Responsibilities:

Safety Culture: 

Promotes safety culture through engagement with employees, JHSC and subcontractors with an objective of “zero” safety incidents. Administer, promote and review safety policies, processes and procedures to maintain relevance while ensuring the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Has ownership of the implementation and management of all local and regional safety initiatives, providing feedback as necessary.

Human Resources: 

Assists in the development, motivation and training of all administrative, production and shipping personnel to promote customer focus, operational efficiency and skill development. Works closely with Site/ Area Managers and production staff to develop and improve analytical and technical skills to improve operational and production management.

Operations Management:

Assists in the development, implementation and track production and shipping processes and strategies to achieve targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Employs daily communication processes with Local Distribution, Supply Chain and Quality to drive group efficiencies, manage inventories and production performance. Assist in preparing data and analysis for the PER’s in the market area. Assist in preparing and tracking the operational action plans for the market area. Maintains tracking systems to ensure they are correct and up-to-date.

Consumption Tracking: 

Ensures systems are in place to effectively and accurately monitor key consumption variable such as labor, energy and fuel. Analyses results to identify opportunities and concerns. Provides consistent and effective reports for operations management.

Financial Management:

Supports financial analysis to identify cost reduction opportunities. Forecast profitability and production to optimize yield; support supply chain with balancing inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact. Develop and implement processes, strategies and tools to develop and track operational cost & variance analysis and drive financial performance. Participate in operations forecasting preparation to balance inventory and sales needs to manage cost of goods produced and working capital impact.

Capital Analysis:

Prepares monthly status of operational capital projects. Works with the Maintenance Coordinator & Manager to provide a consistent and effective report on capital projects. Capital Planning: assists the Operations GM in preparing annual capital plans. This includes a systematic assessment of equipment condition and useful life analysis. Assists in the creation of CERs for the Market Area.

Customer Focus:

Support monthly inventory reconciliation to ensure adequate inventories levels to meet demand and assist the logistics, shipping and quality departments to drive loading and product performance.

Land Management: 

Assist to ensure sites meet or exceed all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Assist the development, implementation and management of sustainable mining plans with detailed stripping, production phasing and rehabilitation forecasts to ensure reserve optimization, while managing community impact. 

Environment Management:

Ensures that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Works with the Environmental Department to develop, implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.

Community Relations: 

Develop and maintain effective relationships within the community by participating in local activities, events and committees through partnerships within the industry, local associations and the business community. 


Relationships with Others Functions:

Reports to the RMX Operations Manager Works closely with Area Managers  Works closely with the ECAN Safety to ensure best practices, policy’s and tools are fully implemented across the market area Works closely with the ECAN Manufacturing to ensure manufacturing best practices and tools are fully utilized across the market area. Works closely with Sales & Marketing  Works closely with Operations Manager and Area Managers to ensure costs are budgeted, forecasted accurately Works closely with other Plant Staff, Maintenance, Distribution and Quality Works closely with Land, Environmental, and Human Resources Staff Liaise with other market areas operation coordinators/ analysts

Qualification Profile:

Education/Work Experience:

College or University Degree in Engineering or Business or the equivalent of education and experience. A minimum of 2 years work experience, not necessarily in the readymix or construction industry.

Knowledge & Skills:

Understanding of general accounting principles an asset Excellent organizational and planning skills, process-oriented Strong analytical skills, research, problem solving and decision making Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset Knowledge of the aggregate and ready mix concrete industry preferred Good written and verbal communications in both official languages Good time management, self-directed, uses time wisely, can attend to a broad range of activities
