Position Summary and Scope of Service:

Jordan's Principle is a child first and needs based principle that applies equally to all First Nations children residing on and off reserve.  It ensures there is no denial or delay for First Nations Children in receiving essential public services that are available to all other children. St.Amant embraces the goal of Jordan's Principle to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to the health and social services they need in their community. We are currently recruiting a Psychology Technician to support this initiative. This position is based in Winnipeg with travel, including to indigenous communities in Manitoba.

  • The Psychology Technician provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, policies and procedures of the assigned Program(s), external legislation and regulatory bodies and all relevant professional standards of practice. The Psychology Technician is familiar with and promotes a “customer service focus” in the provision of services to clients, staff and in other professional relationships. The Psychology Technician works under the direct supervision of the Behaviour Analyst / Psychometrist / Psychologist.
  • As an active team member in the Program(s) assigned, the Psychology Technician participates in continuous quality improvement activities, including the development, modification, and implementation of service and program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards. The Psychology Technician uses service evaluation feedback to purposefully and continually strengthen services. The Psychology Technician actively supports all program initiatives designed to strengthen services and program integrity.
  • The Psychology Technician works within the context of the interdisciplinary team to guide his/her approach to evaluation of each individual when required, to implement direct, consultative, or mediated models of service when required, and supports a client-centred approach to service or family-centred practice when applicable. The Psychology Technician promotes processes which contribute to self determination and the development of skills and competencies of individuals and care providers. This pertains to all areas of intervention including assessments, treatment, and implementation of service. The Psychology Technician is responsible for evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of interventions to ensure outcomes that are positive and beneficial to clients.
  • The Psychology Technician performs all duties professionally, ethically and with integrity. The Psychology Technician takes an active role and personal responsibility for continuous learning to promote knowledge and best practices. The Psychology Technician participates in staff development opportunities, research, and maintains all professional registration and continuing education requirements.
  • The Psychology Technician is familiar with policies, issues, trends, and practices in the field, as well as with needs, gaps or opportunities which may improve the lives of persons with disabilities or autism, or which promote social justice, equity or accessibility.
  • The Psychology Technician is familiar with and adheres to all policies related to risk management and those of workplace activity, promotes and follows all safe, healthy and respectful workplace practices.

Qualifications:

Educational:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Psychology from a recognized university with course work in Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Familiarity with psychometric testing procedures

Professional: 

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism for a minimum of two years
  • Strong computer capabilities with current software applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point
  • Knowledge of Internet, Email, computerized calendars
  • Experience with record keeping and filing systems

Clinical:

  • Current knowledge of theory and practice of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Knowledgeable about contemporary practices in assessment, treatment, and training in the areas of developmental disabilities and autism
  • Knowledge of the structure of social, health and educational services within Manitoba
  • Must be able to work effectively with staff, clients, caregivers, families, other agencies and other clinicians, and to work harmoniously with others
  • Must have knowledge of data collection methods, summary, entry, graphing, and mastery of basic database and graphing functions
  • Ability to understand, support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide services in the clinical, educational or living environment of the person with a developmental disability or autism
  • Knowledge of direct, mediated, and consultative models of practice and ability to apply these according to program protocol
  • Understand own clinical limitations and seek support and consultation for clinical activities so as to do “no harm”
  • Ability to prioritize, structure, and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomes
  • Ability to identify high risk situations and respond appropriately

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Care Management:

The Psychology Technician will assist in the provision of services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant policies, Mission and Values.

Duties include:

  • Assists the Psychologist and Psychometrist in completing psychological / behavioural assessments to identify the abilities and needs of clients
  • Plans and schedules assessment sessions as to maximize efficiency and resources
  • Makes informed decisions concerning the well-being of clients and their families/support network during assessments
  • Promotes behavioural / developmental programs and behavioural / developmental orientation throughout St.Amant
  • Assists in the collection and processing of behavioural assessment information regarding a referred client including (but not limited to) direct collection of assessment data, working with clients during assessments, orient others in data collection procedures, monitoring of data collection procedures, and data entry. Duties may also include the orientation and supervision of volunteers to procedures involving data processing
  • Assists in reviewing behavioural assessment results and implications for development of effective behavioural intervention plan
  • Assists the Behaviour Analyst in developing behavioural treatment programs for increasing skills and/or ameliorating challenging behaviour
  • Conducts behavioural treatment sessions under the supervision of the Behaviour Analyst and teaches care providers to do same
  • Works with clients in the most appropriate and normalized settings they are assigned by the programs
  • Assists the Behaviour Analyst in relaying constructive recommendations to care providers who implement behavioural programs in a supportive and encouraging way
  • Assists care providers and staff to implement behavioural interventions appropriately, effectively, and consistently
  • Relays questions or other issues beyond the scope of the position of Psychology Technician to the Behaviour Analysts, Psychologist, Psychometrists or Coordinator where pertinent
  • Contributes to written reports and other documentation as appropriate
  • Monitors the recording of data
  • Completes accurate and timely data entry, graphing of data, and/or scoring of assessment data
  • Supports others to function as effective team members and to achieve consensual decisions
  • Provides general training sessions to St.Amant staff and/or other relevant groups as approved by the Coordinator
  • Ensures clients are treated in ways consistent with policies and procedures outlined in the programs and Psychology Services
  • Ensures the involvement of “significant others” including direct care givers and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention process
  • Consults effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planning necessary to achieve a consistent, strong client focus and to follows up with clinical recommendations as required
  • Develops or constructs materials for client use
  • Develops clinical specialties / competencies in accordance with priority needs of clients
  • Ensures that clinical activities are conducted within a research (evaluation) framework
  • Participates in any continuing education programs required by St.Amant
  • Ensures that there is appropriate consent related to assessments or exchange of information and reviews this regularly
  • Develops a clear understanding of health or client record documentation standards according to specific Program policies

Clinicians working with the Jordan's Principle program are required to travel to various locations across Manitoba. Some of these locations are in remote communities. If staying overnight in a remote community is required, Clinicians would be eligible for travel incentives.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and a Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. 

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases. Successful applicants will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
