Position Overview:
St. Amant is dedicated to the vision of Jordan's Principle, ensuring that every child with disabilities has access to essential health and social services within their community. We are seeking a Counsellor to contribute to this vital mission.
This hybrid role is primarily based in Winnipeg, with regular travel to First Nation communities across Manitoba.
The Counsellor will deliver services in alignment with the Mission and Values of St. Amant, adhering to the policies and procedures of the designated Program(s), as well as external regulations and professional standards. A strong emphasis on a 'customer service focus' is essential in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
As an integral member of the assigned Program(s), the Counsellor will engage in ongoing quality enhancement initiatives, including the development, refinement, and execution of service and program objectives.
Qualifications:
Educational:
- Master's degree in counselling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Professional:
- Demonstrated experience in counselling, particularly with children and adults.
- In-depth understanding and application of individual and family/group dynamics.
- Familiarity with community resources and effective utilization strategies.
- Knowledge of the CCPA Code of Ethics (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association).
- Capability to identify high-risk scenarios and respond appropriately.
- Proficient in collaborating with clients, caregivers, and families, as well as mentoring others.
- Awareness of literature regarding developmental disabilities, historical support frameworks, and contemporary care philosophies would be advantageous.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities and cultures is beneficial.
- Understanding of Indigenous culture and language is a plus.
- Willingness to travel, including to remote communities in Manitoba, with potential for small plane or boat travel and overnight stays. Flexibility in working hours is required.
Personal:
- Ability to exemplify behaviors that align with the Mission and Values of St. Amant.
- A valid Manitoba driver's license and access to a vehicle are essential for community-based programs.
