Position Overview:

St. Amant is dedicated to the vision of Jordan's Principle, ensuring that all children with disabilities receive the essential health and social services within their communities. We are seeking a Counsellor to contribute to this vital mission.

This hybrid role is primarily based in Winnipeg, with regular overnight travel to First Nation communities across Manitoba.

The Counsellor will deliver services aligned with the Mission and Values of St. Amant, adhering to the policies and procedures of the designated Program(s), as well as complying with external legislation and professional standards. A strong emphasis on a "customer service focus" is crucial in interactions with clients, colleagues, and other professional relationships.

As an integral member of the assigned Program(s), the Counsellor will engage in ongoing quality enhancement initiatives, which include the formulation, adjustment, and execution of service and program objectives.

Qualifications:

Educational:

  • Master's degree in counselling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Professional:

  • Prior counselling experience, particularly with individual sessions for children and adults.
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of individual and family/group dynamics.
  • Familiarity with community resources and their effective utilization.
  • Awareness of the CCPA Code of Ethics (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association).
  • Capability to identify high-risk scenarios and respond appropriately.
  • Proficiency in collaborating effectively with clients, caregivers, and families, alongside supervising and mentoring others.
  • Knowledge of literature concerning developmental disabilities, including historical support and treatment methods, as well as current trends and philosophies regarding care, education, employment, and lifestyle would be advantageous.
  • Experience within Indigenous communities and cultures is a plus.
  • Understanding of an Indigenous culture and language would be beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel, including to remote communities in Manitoba, where travel by small aircraft and/or boat may be necessary, along with overnight stays in or near respective communities. Flexibility in working hours may be required.

  • Ability to exhibit behavior that aligns with the Mission and Values of St. Amant.
  • A valid Manitoba driver's license and access to a vehicle are essential for community-based programs.
