**The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) requires a Jordan’s Principle Coordinator at the SSCY Centre to support First Nation children living with a disability or medical needs.**

**BACKGROUND**:
Jordan's Principle is named in memory of Jordan River Anderson, a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation. Jordan’s Principle is a child first initiative intended to ensure that First Nation children receive public services ordinarily available to other children due to jurisdictional disputes. The goal of the initiative is to connect First Nation children and their families with quality services, supports, and resources to achieve holistic outcomes.

The SCO Jordan’s Principle Coordinator is a valuable member of the team and works with families, other Jordan’s Principle staff, clinicians, and organizations to access programs, services and supports to increase health and social success for First Nation children living with a disability or medical needs.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Utilizing a strength-based approach to build confidence, focus on solutions and engage the family, the SCO Jordan’s Principle Coordinator will work with service providers and families to support First Nation children at the SSCY Centre by:

- Working with children, families, clinicians, and others to identify the resources needed to address gaps and ensure positive health and social outcomes.
- Providing navigation support to appropriate programs, departments and/or agencies and working with professionals in a responsive and coordinated manner.
- Attending appointments and/or case conferencing with families as required.
- Collaborating with appropriate service providers and/or programs within SSCY, SCO, as well as externally, such as:

- Rehabilitation Centre for Children
- Child Development Clinic
- Children’s disAbility Services
- Manitoba Possible
- First Nations community-based Jordan’s Principle teams
- Tribal Council Jordan’s Principle programs
- Indigenous Services Canada - Manitoba regional office (Jordan’s Principle/NIHB)
- Others
- Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with privacy and standards to ensure personal information is kept private, safe, and secure.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES**:

- Provides Jordan’s Principle direct or navigation services for First Nations children living with a disability or requiring medical supports at the SSCY Centre.
- Provides consistent, comprehensive, competent, and culturally appropriate services.
- Builds and nurtures relationships across community-based programs, with service providers, First Nations, and federal, provincial, and territorial programs and services.
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets program statistics and data for reporting purposes.
- Serve as a First Nations representative on the Rehabilitation Centre for Children and SSCY Centre’s Jordan’s Principle/Truth and Reconciliation Advisory Committee.
- Adhere to SCO and SSCY policies, procedures, and standards. Provide services in compliance with all laws including but not limited to _The Personal Health Information Act _(Manitoba).
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the disability sector, or in health, social or education sectors with an emphasis of working with children living with a disability.
- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in related fields such as health, social work, or education is preferred.
- Lived experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the history and implementation of Jordan’s Principle.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work productively with families, team members, supervisors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Experience working with multi-sectoral partnerships.
- Knowledge of the impacts of colonialism, Indian Residential Schools, intergenerational trauma and systemic racism on First Nation education and children.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and to independently manage a wide range of tasks, often within short timelines and with precision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when developing and handling sensitive information.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write clear, concise documents and reports with a high degree of accuracy and for a variety of audiences.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and present information to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota lang
