About the Role
CASA Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child’s mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, school administrators, community service providers and caregivers to provide timely, wrap-around clinical service delivery in the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Program in partnership with First Nation and Métis schools.

The Mental Health Therapist will:
  Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents. Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-V and/or other diagnostic tools. Work closely with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from the communities we serve. Facilitate psychoeducational group sessions on general mental health topics for school staff, caregivers and community service providers. Adhere to the policies and procedures of First Nation and Métis school division partners. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, professionals, caregivers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers to develop holistic patient care plans and support successful transitions. Participate in school and community events, including traditional ceremonies and cultural events. Provide coverage for the Kipohtakaw Education Centre Mental Health Therapist.
Qualifications Graduate degree in clinical psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing. Active registration and in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act. A minimum of two years clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions. Access to cultural and spiritual knowledge and training is provided.
Conditions of Employment A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate. A satisfactory Child Intervention Check. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground. Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
