**Job Summary**:
The Public Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of Société Alzheimer Society education programs and awareness initiatives as well as assisting in the delivery of health promotion programs within the assigned territory. Reporting directly to the Education and Community Programs Manager, the Public Education Coordinator is expected to deliver essential education and awareness programs and provide up to date knowledge on dementia and care practices to clients, staff, health service providers, community service providers, students, volunteers, and the general public.
**Job Qualifications**
**Education**:
- Post secondary degree/diploma in the fields of gerontology, health promotion, education, communications, social sciences, or other related health field. Other disciplines may be considered given appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Certificate in adult education considered an asset.
**Experience**:
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in the health and/or social service sectors
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Bilingual (English & French) considered an asset
- Exceptional presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
- Team oriented and ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines in an efficient manner
- Ability to take initiative and be resourceful.
- Proficiency in technology (e.g.: Microsoft office suite, Power Point, and statistical data bases)
- Expertise and experience in cultural sensitivity and diversity
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
- Promote awareness and education of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias as well as programs and services offered by Société Alzheimer Society
- Must be able to articulate and provide essential resources for those living the dementia journey and their care partners
- Coordinate and deliver core education programs, training events and promotional booths in and around assigned territory
- Identify education needs within the organization for staff, clients, and volunteers, and also within the community at large
- Evaluate training and education programs to ensure quality standards are achieved
- Contribute to external communications as required (newsletters, newspaper articles etc.)
- Maintain a database of statistical information and prepare monthly statistical reports
- Participate on internal and external committees as required
- Identify, develop and/or strengthen partnerships between community support agencies
- Assist with fundraising initiatives and promotional events as required
**Other Duties**
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
**Other Requirements**
- Must be able to provide a police record check (vulnerable sector)
- Must possess a valid drivers license, good driving record, access to a vehicle, and auto insurance.
- Travel across Chapter District as required.
- Must be able to provide a negative 2-step TB Test
- Flexible Schedule: some evenings and weekends may be required.
**Physical Demands**
- No special physical demands are required beyond the performance of general office duties.
- Sensory attention is required for most of the workday (looking at a computer screen, reading documents etc.)
