Reporting to the Manager, Knowledge and Strategic Services, the Health Promoter is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. The Health Promoter will support the work of the Health Equity Team and agency to implement the requirements established in the Ontario Public Health Standards - Health Equity Standard within their processes for planning, implementation, and evaluation.
This will be done by collaborating with staff and community partners to support research, planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating public health activities and interventions in accordance with agency policy and the Ontario Public Health Standards.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develops, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates projects and activities in consultation with the manager and other team members as required.
- Supports programs to emphasize population health, the promotion of health, and community involvement to meet local needs and the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS). In particular emphasizing the Health Equity Foundational Standard including the Health Equity and Relationship with Indigenous Communities Guidelines.
- Implements appropriate health promotion interventions utilizing skills in social marketing, media communications, innovation, intersectoral planning, community relationships (i.e. networks and coalitions), and community capacity building.
- Engages in community development initiatives with internal staff, external partners, agencies, and community members to improve overall health status and to reduce health inequities.
- Acts as a resource person by responding to internal and community requests for information as appropriate.
- Play a key role in program planning and the implementation of the OPHS Foundational Standard (health equity) at the team or division level.
- Facilitates the establishment of public health policies through advocacy, negotiation, writing and presenting resolutions and position papers, research and analysis of policy options, drafting policy recommendations and assisting with implementation.
- Maintains current knowledge of the literature and best practices and critically appraises evidence to assist with priority setting, program targeting and determination of public health strategies.
- Collects, synthesizes and analyses data and information to support evidence-informed decision-making, planning, and policy analysis.
- Contributes to the development of program plans, logic models, activity plans and monitoring and evaluation plans by providing latest evidence and best practices.
- Initiates, conducts, promotes, presents, and participates in collaborative research or evaluation projects with relevant internal and external partners.
- Engages in collaborative processes to assess strengths and needs of marginalized community members and stakeholders.
**Requirements**:
- Master’s degree in field such as: public health; health promotion; social justice; social work; interdisciplinary studies; and equity studies. Equivalent education/training ensuring a population public health focus may also be considered.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in public health, health promotion, or community health with proficiency in a combination of the following areas: research methods, program evaluation, policy development, group facilitation techniques, public speaking and presentation, principles of population health, community development, social marketing and media communication strategies.
- Demonstrated expertise regarding determinants of health and health equity; public health; knowledge translation; change management and communications.
- Passion for and demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice and anti-racist / anti-oppression practices
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and independently as an integral team member.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
- Fluency in both official languages is an asset.
- Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft office and relevant data bases.
