The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Program Lead, Social Impact for approximately 24 months.
Through a philanthropic investment, the Haskayne School of Business is developing initiatives designed to strengthen the capacity of the non-profit sector by leveraging its expertise in business education. Non-profits play a crucial role in addressing societal challenges such as housing, food insecurity, mental health, and climate change, and the Haskayne School recognizes the need for leaders with strong business acumen and innovative thinking.
By offering work-integrated learning opportunities and leadership development, Haskayne aims to equip students with real-world experience, while providing non-profit organizations access to business expertise and a pipeline of talent. This work aligns with the Haskayne School's commitment to community engagement, philanthropy, and social impact, fostering a culture of civic responsibility and ensuring that students are aware of the significant opportunities and contributions of the non-profit sector.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres, the Program Lead, Social Impact is responsible for the design, development and implementation of programs and initiatives related to student experiential learning with non-profit organizations and leadership capacity building for the non-profit sector. The position demands a high volume and variety of work with significant impacts on the formulation of social impact portfolio programming. The position requires interactions with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. Experience in the non-profit sector, a professional manner along with excellent communication skills are essential. This position works within a framework of University and School policies and procedures and requires personal initiative and sound judgment. The position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, and a readiness to collaborate.
This position normally works Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week), although extended or alternative hours (evenings and weekends) may be required with advance notice. This is a two-year limited term, with possibility of extension.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- In partnership with Haskayne Centres and Career Services colleagues, oversee and manage non-profit organization's participation in the Propel program, coordinating student placements with non-profit organizations and aligning projects with organizational needs.
- Scale the program by increasing the number of non-profit placements annually and implementing a streamlined intake process for non-profits, ensuring alignment between the support they require and various Haskayne programs.
- Ensure non-profits receive resources to define project scopes that maximize student contributions and impact.
- Develop and deliver pre-placement workshops to prepare students for work in non-profits, and track student journeys from placements to potential careers or internships in the sector.
- Pilot new initiatives and respond to emerging opportunities based on feedback from alumni, non-profits, and evolving needs within the non-profit sector.
- Build and maintain partnerships with non-profit organizations, alumni, and internal stakeholders (faculty, staff, and students).
- Promote pro-bono student support to non-profits and raise awareness about the program's benefits to both students and organizations.
- In partnership with Haskayne Centres colleagues, work to increase the number of non-profit leaders who participate in the Real Deal.
- In partnership with Haskayne Executive Education, coordinate leadership development opportunities for senior non-profit leaders through the Strategic Leadership Development Program.
- Develop, launch and manage an application system to support non-profit leader's participation in the program.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, including the number of student placements, leadership program participation, and overall impact.
- Program budget owner and manager.
- Collect and analyze data on student engagement, career trajectories, and non-profit feedback.
- Ensure continuous improvement through regular feedback, reporting, and adjustments to meet evolving needs and opportunities.
- An undergraduate degree is required, preferably in business.
- A graduate degree, such as an MBA or master's in public administration, would be considered an asset, particularly with a focus on non-profit management, leadership or social enterprise.
- Knowledge of and experience in the non-profit sector is required, whether through experience working at or with non-profit organizations or in a community investment or community development role.
- A minimum of five years of experience in managing programs or projects, ideally within the non-profit sector or higher education, with a proven ability to coordinate stakeholders, market programs and oversee initiatives is required.
- The ability to represent the interests of the Haskayne School of Business and the University of Calgary in a professional manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability in partnership building, evaluation of program outcomes, and working with diverse groups, including students, faculty, and non-profit leaders.
- The ability to use good judgment, take initiative, work independently, and organize and complete work with minimal supervision while managing competing and concurrent deadlines is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required, along with strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated creativity and initiative to support continuous improvement and encourage positive outcomes is an asset.
- Strong skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required and being comfortable learning new software systems is required.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting and financial reporting.
