The Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTI) Area at the Haskayne School of Business (HSB), University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track (Teaching) position in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment start date is July 1, 2025.

Duties of the position include teaching entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology entrepreneurship courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, contributing to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and providing professional service for the HSB, the University, and the broader community. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research and scholarly activities that maintain currency in and enhance pedagogical practices, inform curriculum design, and advance and strengthen the knowledge base required to maintain expertise of an instructor.


Qualifications

Faculty in the ENTI Area at the Haskayne School of Business are engaged in interdisciplinary research and teaching related to a wide spectrum of topics within the broad entrepreneurship and innovation domain. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, innovative, collaborative, growth-oriented team dedicated to developing and disseminating impactful, thought-provoking research and education in entrepreneurship and innovation. The role includes contributing to the creation of innovative interdisciplinary entrepreneurship programs, conducting research to advance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in entrepreneurship and innovation, and cultivating a dynamic environment that empowers students to thrive in the fast-paced realms of emerging technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking. Experiential learning is a cornerstone of all Entrepreneurship and Innovation courses at the HSB. The successful candidate will be expected to employ experiential pedagogy in their teaching, fostering hands-on, practical learning experiences that resonate with real-world entrepreneurial challenges. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a broad range of courses across our Entrepreneurship and Innovation curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels. These include courses such as: Technology Entrepreneurship, New Venture Creation, Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Analysis, Corporate Innovation and Intrapreneurship, Strategic Business Analysis, etc. Many of these courses include project-based components where students work in teams to address complex entrepreneurial challenges. As such, the successful candidate will also be expected to mentor and guide student project teams, effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, and help students translate theory into impactful, actionable solutions. This role offers the opportunity to meaningfully shape the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders by delivering innovative, experiential, and student-centered learning experiences.

We expect candidates for the position to meet the following requirements:

  • A formal business education with a graduate-level degree focusing on management, entrepreneurship and innovation, or strategy (such as an MBA or an equivalent degree) is required;
  • The completion of the highest rank of academic training (e.g., PhD, DBA, or other relevant doctoral degree) in a relevant field is desired. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree in a relevant field;
  • Ability to contribute to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation is required;
  • Understanding of core strategy, management, and entrepreneurship and innovation frameworks is required.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation at the post-secondary level, as demonstrated by excellent student evaluations, is required;
  • Familiarity with no-code and low-code platforms, emerging generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and other software commonly used in startup tech stacks is an asset;
  • Startup experience or industry experience in entrepreneurship or strategy/entrepreneurship consulting is an asset;
  • Administrative skills required to coordinate multi-section courses is an asset;
  • Evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach to interacting with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders;
  • Willingness to engage in service to the school, University, and profession.
