Job Summary

VTRAC Consulting Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Underwriting Manager to lead our Commercial Lines Underwriting team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and support to our underwriting team, ensuring the department operates at maximum efficiency and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Guidance: Provide strategic guidance and support to the underwriting team, ensuring they have the necessary resources and tools to achieve business objectives.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the underwriting department operates at maximum efficiency and productivity, meeting corporate service standards.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and prioritize strategic initiatives, driving business growth and profitability.
  • Risk Management: Analyze and recommend improvements to work processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with established principles and guidelines.
  • Team Management: Attract, coach, mentor, and train team members to develop them according to their personal abilities and development plan.
  • Special Projects: Act as the lead person on special projects and initiatives, ensuring timely completion and effective implementation.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the development and delivery of technical and non-technical underwriting training to internal staff and external brokers and business partners.
  • Performance Management: Responsible for performance management, including new hires, promotions, and disciplinary actions up to and including terminations.
  • Policy Interpretation: Has specialized knowledge of own products and pricing to interpret and provide guidance to others (co-workers and distributors).
  • Compliance: Understands the common terms, conditions, and exclusions of policy coverages and can recognize gaps in coverage, or exposure to loss.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understands the political, legal, and social influences on underwriting own product line, and ensures compliance with established principles.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of complex underwriting experience.
  • Post-secondary education, CIP designation.
  • Exemplary analytical skills and ability to make informed decisions.
  • Skilled communicator who can adapt approach to audience.
  • Influence decisions and negotiate strategically.
  • Enthusiastic learner who thrives within a team or independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven decision-making and analytical skills, including ability to determine how to grow business profitability through assessment and analysis of individual risks.
