The Opportunity

This position works in our Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology. In this role, you will coordinate and expedite the flow of materials according to production or department priorities. Comply and maintain records, review production schedules and related information. Consult with department Team Leader to identify department requirements, organize work, and maintain work schedule. Establish priorities of work assignment input, as needed. Solve a wide range of problems requiring some interpretation of defined procedures and practices. Select methods and practices with guidance from Team Leader to obtain robust, thorough, and practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • In addition to a primary production role of ensuring the correct materials are available on time, in the right quantities and stored in the proper locations, the Material Coordinator will interface with personnel in other areas.
  • Schedules daily activities, oversees material supply, and ensures efficient flow of materials in and out of production areas.
  • Receives materials, approves protocols, sorts and incubates cartridges as required and participates in testing when time permits – approximately 30% of the time.
  • Participates in the day-to-day activities within the laboratory. This includes (but is not limited to): ordering materials and monitoring Test Lab inventory (QAD, Excel, etc.), creating shift reports and non-conformance reports when needed.
  • The first point of contact for all manufacturing issues in absence of Team Leader.
  • Acts as a resource to Manufacturing and test areas on issues. Maintains open communication with other process groups and attends daily Huddles to convey any Test Lab concerns.
  • Collaborates with Team Leader to coordinate production flow.
  • Provides feedback to Team Leader and Supervisor on the progress and barriers to achieving production goals.
  • Monitors product flow, raw materials and other key consumables in designated area and manages them to meet production targets.
  • Follows and ensures compliance to workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist with regular Health and Safety audits, recording and reporting findings to Team Leader and Supervisor.
  • Assists in organizing engineering experiments and planned lab shutdowns.
  • Implement improvements that will positively affect quality, productivity and costs of the material handling operations.
  • Safeguard the environment and facilitate a safe and healthy workplace culture.
  • Responsible for supporting the effectiveness of the Quality system.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as may be required.

Requirements

  • 2 years College Diploma in relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience in Test Lab Operations or related business is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership success in a team environment is an asset.
  • 4X4 A Shift Extended, rotating four days on four days off, from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
