Position Overview

The Materials Delivery unit plays a crucial role in the efficient management of library resources and services within the Ottawa Public Library (OPL). This includes the effective sorting of library materials and the operation of automated sorting systems, ensuring timely distribution of both internal and contracted library resources to support the OPL's numerous branches and mobile services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, sort, and stage library books and various materials.
  • Operate Automated Materials Handling (AMH) equipment effectively.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of delivery vehicles for materials.

Work is conducted in alignment with the policies and values of the Library, emphasizing customer service excellence and adherence to the Canadian Federation of Library Association's principles on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 9.
  • Less than 6 months of experience in organizing and staging materials in a warehouse setting.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Familiarity with methods and techniques for sorting and staging materials in a warehouse environment.
  • General understanding of health and safety policies and procedures relevant to the Ottawa Public Library.
  • Awareness of applicable health and safety legislation, including worker rights and responsibilities.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to sort and organize library holdings according to established warehouse systems.
  • Physical capability to maneuver book carts and lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrate tact, discretion, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Adapt to changing priorities as needed.
  • Strong customer service orientation, emphasizing tact and confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail and flexibility in work tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
