About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Manager, Crown Land Information Management Centre. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of information maintained in the Crown lands registry, as well as the mapping, archival storage, and retrieval of historical and digital Crown land data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that documentary and statistical information relating to all Crown lands holdings is readily available to government departments and agencies, members of the legal community, and the public.
  • Analyze and interpret Crown lands documents, including deeds, grants, survey plans, maps, benefits, and burdens, in consultation with department lawyers, surveyors, and other land staff to resolve Crown land property matters.
  • Certify various documents pursuant to various acts, including the Crown Lands Act, Evidence Act, and Wilderness Protection Act.
  • Oversee the effective management of all records and mapping pertaining to the extent of Crown lands, verifying, updating, and reporting on changes in the Crown lands cadastre based on disposals and acquisitions to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Effectively manage human resources and develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a recognized post-secondary degree in Surveying or Geomatics, as well as a minimum of five years of experience in legal surveying, interpreting the extent of title, real property, or acceptable equivalent education and experience.

You will also need to have detailed knowledge of all legislation, regulations, standards, and policies governing land transactions in Nova Scotia, including the Crown Lands Act, Land Registration Act, Quieting Titles Act, Land Holdings Disclosure Act, Land Titles Clarification Act, Land Surveyors Act, Municipal Government Act, Limitation of Actions Act, and Ministerial Land Transaction Regulations created under the Court Administration Act.
