The Nature Conservancy of Canada is seeking a Program Director to lead our land conservation efforts in Nova Scotia. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective land conservation strategies to protect the region's natural features.

This role requires a strong understanding of Atlantic Canadian and Nova Scotian ecosystems and species, as well as excellent organization, planning, communication, and project management skills. You will work closely with our team to foster strong partnerships with regional and local partners and communities in support of conservation goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conservation Strategy Development

• Develop and implement effective land conservation strategies to protect the region's natural features.

• Identify opportunities for land securement on private lands and assess resources required.

• Guide staff and undertake landowner contact and negotiations for long-term protection of priority private lands.

2. Business Development and Fundraising

• Cultivate meaningful supporter relationships with NCC.

• Collaborate with staff to support fundraising from existing and new donors, including individuals, businesses, foundations, and governmental sources.

3. Community and Partnership Liaison

• Act as an ambassador and NCC spokesperson in Nova Scotia for external relations and communications.

• Lead on the development and maintenance of key partner relationships with provincial government departments, Indigenous Nations, and conservation groups.

4. Program Management

• Lead business planning process for securement activities, including developing and managing work plans and budgets.

• Lead on reporting of key metrics in accordance with program goals and budgets.

Skills and Aptitudes:

• A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.

• Excellent organization, planning, communication, and project management skills.

• Flexibility, reliability, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and as a leader.

• Strong communicator with ability to explain complex topics in simple terms.

• Entrepreneurial with ability to seek and implement new opportunities to advance conservation goals.

• Previous experience working with landowners and Indigenous Peoples is an asset.

• Proficient with MS Office Suite and experience with GIS and Conservation Standards is an asset.
