Program Director

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is seeking a Program Director to lead its land conservation efforts in Nova Scotia. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing effective conservation strategies to protect the region's natural features.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conservation Strategy Development
Develop and implement land conservation strategies to protect priority private lands and non-private lands.
Guide staff in landowner contact and negotiations for long-term protection of priority private lands.
Support the development and implementation of conservation landscape plans with a broad range of partners.
Support conservation beyond NCC properties, including land use, forest management, and protected area plans.
2. Business Development and Fundraising
Cultivate meaningful supporter relationships with NCC.
Collaborate with staff to support fundraising from existing and new donors, including individuals, businesses, foundations, and government sources.
Manage land conservation grants with the support of development and finance staff.
3. Community and Partnership Liaison
Act as an ambassador and NCC spokesperson in Nova Scotia for external relations and communications.
Lead on the development and maintenance of key partner relationships with provincial government departments, Indigenous Nations, conservation groups, and communities.
4. Program and Financial Administration
Lead business planning for securement activities, including work plans and budgets.
Lead on reporting of key metrics in accordance with program goals and budgets.
Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Conservation.
Requirements:
A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
In-depth knowledge of Atlantic Canadian and Nova Scotian ecosystems and species is an asset.
Exemplary organization, planning, communication, and project management skills.
Flexibility, reliability, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and as a leader with two or more direct reports.
A strong communicator with the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms.
Entrepreneurial with a strong ability to seek and implement new opportunities to advance conservation goals.
Previous experience working with landowners and Indigenous Peoples is an asset.
Must be prepared to travel and work flexible hours at times.
Proficient with MS Office Suite and experience with GIS and Conservation Standards is an asset.
A commitment to conservation and a love of nature.
