Labour Relations Consultant Job Description

Serve as the primary point of contact for Labour and Employee Relations issues from assigned clients/business groups, providing daily advice and counsel on related matters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Interpretation and Compliance: Advise all levels of management on interpreting relevant policies, collective agreements, and legislation (e.g., Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act), ensuring compliance with company obligations.
  • Employee Performance and Discipline: Coach and advise management on employee performance, attendance, discipline, and dismissal, equipping them with the necessary tools and training.
  • Labour and Employee Relations: Foster constructive relationships with labour and employee groups through effective administration of policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation.
  • Complaints and Grievances: Manage the resolution of complaints and grievances, including arbitration and negotiation of settlements.
  • Workplace Investigations: Conduct workplace investigations related to the Code of Business Ethics and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • HR Division Collaboration: Collaborate within the HR division to develop, design, and implement corporate best practices, policies, guidelines, and programs that align with the operational needs of client groups.
  • Project Participation: Participate in projects or committees involving management, union, and other representatives related to HR and organizational initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience implementing HR policies across key disciplines, including grievances and arbitration, employee relations, collective agreement consultation, and employment law
  • Experience working within Human Resources in a unionized environment
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, or a related field
  • Certifications: CHRP designation will be preferred
