Diabetes Sports Camp Counsellor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Diabetes Sports Camp Counsellor to join our Western Canada team. As a Counsellor, you will play a vital role in directing, supervising, and organizing children with diabetes, while implementing program activities and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with other Counsellors and Activity Leaders to deliver a comprehensive and engaging program.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of each camper's needs and abilities, and adapt activities accordingly.
- Lead groups of 8-10 children, including monitoring meal times, facilitating games and activities, and leading groups to scheduled events.
- Implement diabetes management tasks, including keeping blood sugar logs and facilitating discussions around diabetes management.
- Ensure the general safety of campers, and respond to any incidents or emergencies that may arise.
- Communicate effectively with camp Leadership Staff, and provide regular updates on camper experiences and concerns.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, daily on-site debriefs, and a 5-day in-service staff training.
- Current secondary and postsecondary student living with type 1 diabetes.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and supervise/facilitate diabetes management tasks.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Must be willing to submit a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current (or willing to obtain) Standard First Aid & CPR-C.
- Concussion certification (provided).
- Previous summer camp, child care, or sports camp experience preferred.
- High Five Certification, Mental Health First Aid.
Camp programming runs from 9am-4pm, with work hours from 8:30am-4:30pm. Counsellors will participate in team meetings or additional training as needed. The role requires the ability to run, jump, swim, and participate in other physical activities alongside campers, as well as handle commercial cleaning agents and lift/move objects of up to 50lbs.
LocationCamp locations in Saskatoon, Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
CompensationDependent on experience and certifications.
