Position Overview
As a Camp Counselor, your primary role will involve guiding, supervising, and organizing activities for children, while executing program initiatives. You will collaborate with a partner to lead groups of 8-10 children, overseeing meal times, facilitating games and activities, and escorting groups to scheduled events.

Safety and Diabetes Management
Your responsibilities will extend to ensuring the overall safety of campers, along with specific diabetes management tasks, which include maintaining blood sugar logs and engaging in discussions about diabetes care. You will promote participation, growth, and skill enhancement among the children in your group, while embodying the core values of respect, compassion, and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and activity leaders.
  2. Familiarize yourself with your campers by reviewing registration details.
  3. Conduct pre-camp calls to your campers to share essential information and address any inquiries.
  4. Supervise children within your designated age/activity group.
  5. Organize and lead a diverse range of small and large group activities weekly.
  6. Identify and address camper behavior issues using approved methods.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and organization in program areas and restrooms.
  8. Communicate participant experiences and concerns with camp leadership.
  9. Participate in weekly staff meetings, daily debriefs, and in-service training.
  10. Guide all children in regular diabetes management tasks as per the provided schedule.
  11. Understand and adhere to all emergency procedures related to the camp program.
  12. Follow and enforce all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the safety and whereabouts of your campers at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current secondary or postsecondary student living with type 1 diabetes.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and facilitate diabetes management tasks.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Current (or willingness to obtain) Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification.
  • Concussion certification (training provided).
  • Previous experience in summer camp, childcare, or sports camp settings is preferred.
  • High Five Certification and Mental Health First Aid certification are advantageous.
Working Conditions

Camp programming typically runs from 9 AM to 4 PM, with work hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Outside of regular programming, counselors will engage in team meetings or additional training as required. Camp Counselors should be prepared to:

  • Participate actively in physical activities alongside campers, including running, jumping, and swimming.
  • Handle commercial cleaning agents safely.
  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Supervise campers in various weather conditions, including sun, rain, and other inclement weather.
Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience and certifications.
