Position Overview
As a Camp Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in guiding, overseeing, and organizing children while executing program activities. Together with a partner, you will manage groups of 8-10 children, ensuring their well-being during meal times, facilitating engaging games and activities, and escorting them to scheduled events.

Key Responsibilities
You will be accountable for the overall safety of campers, particularly in diabetes management, which includes maintaining blood sugar logs and leading discussions on diabetes care. Your role will also involve fostering participation, personal growth, and skill enhancement among the children in your group, while embodying the core values of ICD: Respect, Compassion, and Empowerment.

  1. Collaborate effectively with fellow Counsellors and Activity Leaders.
  2. Familiarize yourself with your campers by reviewing registration details.
  3. Conduct pre-camp calls to campers to share essential information and address any inquiries.
  4. Supervise children within your designated age/activity group.
  5. Organize and facilitate a variety of small and large group activities weekly.
  6. Identify and address camper behavior issues using approved methods.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and organization in program areas and restrooms.
  8. Communicate participant experiences and concerns with camp Leadership Staff.
  9. Attend weekly staff meetings, daily debriefs, and a comprehensive in-service training.
  10. Lead and engage all children in regular diabetes management tasks as per the provided schedule.
  11. Understand and adhere to all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  12. Follow and enforce all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the safety and whereabouts of your campers at all times.

Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Current secondary or postsecondary students living with type 1 diabetes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supervise diabetes management tasks.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Current (or willingness to obtain) Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification.
  • Concussion certification (training provided).
  • Previous experience in summer camps, childcare, or sports camps is preferred.
  • High Five Certification and Mental Health First Aid training.

Working Conditions
Camp programming typically runs from 9 AM to 4 PM, with work hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Outside of regular programming, Counsellors will participate in team meetings or additional training as required. Camp Counsellors should be able to:

  • Engage in physical activities alongside campers, including running, jumping, and swimming.
  • Handle commercial cleaning agents safely.
  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Supervise campers indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on experience and certifications.
