Plains Midstream Canada (PMC) stands as a premier transportation and midstream service provider, focusing on transportation, storage, processing, and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Our operations include strategically positioned facilities for crude oil and NGL storage, the separation of NGL from natural gas, and the fractionation of NGL into pure liquid petroleum gas (LPG) products, such as propane and butane.

Role Overview:
The HR Business Partner cultivates effective relationships with executive and senior leadership across designated departments to proactively address business challenges and achieve organizational objectives through pragmatic, data-driven HR solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate with our North American Information Services (IS) and Canadian Commercial Assets, Supply & Trading divisions.

Leadership Business Partnership
  • Establishes trust to foster productive relationships with executive and senior leadership to influence and attain business outcomes.
  • Consults with designated business groups, stakeholders, and HR Centres of Excellence (COEs) to ascertain business requirements.
  • Analyzes and interprets data to formulate solutions that enhance team dynamics, boost morale, and improve productivity and employee retention.
  • Utilizes data and business insight to assess and diagnose underlying causes of workplace issues, employing facts and data to recommend solutions.
  • Collaborates with HR Centres of Excellence (COEs) to ensure HR solutions effectively address business challenges and generate value.
  • Leads change initiatives by partnering with executive and senior leadership on planning, implementing, and communicating necessary changes affecting employees.
  • Oversees the execution of annual HR programs (e.g., performance management, compensation, development & succession planning) within the assigned client groups.
  • Provides guidance and project management on organizational restructuring and workforce planning.
Employee Relations
  • Advises executive and senior leadership on employee relations matters and offers guidance as necessary.
  • Delivers ongoing performance management support to executive senior leadership (coaching, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Collaborates with the legal department as required on complex employee relations issues.
  • Conducts thorough and objective investigations to manage and resolve intricate employee relations challenges.
Analysis & Strategic Thinking
  • Performs continuous analysis of employee/talent data and reports on trends, concerns, and successes to senior leadership, including:
    • Position Management
    • Headcount, Turnover, Exit data
    • Internal equity
    • Employee engagement
  • Develops innovative strategies and roadmaps aligned with strategic business objectives.
  • Partners with senior leaders to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities, providing strategies to optimize employee performance.
  • Evaluates the employee implications of business decisions and recommends strategies to maintain productivity and engagement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in an HR Business Partner, Employee Relations, or similar role with a focus on collaboration with senior leaders and performance consulting.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%, primarily to the US for team and client meetings.
  • A proven ability to:
    • Develop and implement innovative and proactive solutions to complex challenges;
    • Coach, influence, and build trust among senior management;
    • Effectively plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
    • Collaborate across multiple business functions within Plains;
    • Compile and analyze data from MS Excel and HRIS;
    • Demonstrate strategic thinking and attention to detail;
    • Exhibit sound judgment and experience in assessing business-related risks;
    • Interpret and apply relevant laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies;
    • Perform effectively in a fast-paced environment;
    • Understand the needs of stakeholders and business leaders;
    • Contribute to a strong 'team first' culture.
  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • CPHR designation.
  • Experience with Workday HRIS.
