Role Overview:

The HR Business Partner is responsible for cultivating effective relationships with executive and senior leadership within designated departments to proactively address business challenges and achieve organizational objectives through pragmatic, data-driven HR solutions. This role will collaborate closely with our North American Information Services (IS) and Canadian Commercial Assets, Supply & Trading divisions.

Leadership Collaboration
  • Establishes trust to nurture effective relationships with executive and senior leadership to influence and attain business outcomes.
  • Consults with assigned business units, stakeholders, and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ascertain business requirements.
  • Analyzes and interprets data to devise solutions that enhance team dynamics, boost morale, and improve employee retention.
  • Utilizes data and business insight to evaluate and diagnose underlying causes of workplace issues, employing facts and data to propose actionable solutions.
  • Partners with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure HR strategies effectively tackle business challenges and create business value.
  • Drives change by collaborating with executive and senior leadership on planning, executing, and communicating necessary employee-related changes.
  • Oversees the rollout of annual HR initiatives (e.g., performance management, compensation, development & succession planning) within the designated client groups.
  • Provides guidance and project management for organizational restructuring and workforce planning.
Employee Relations Management
  • Advises executive and senior leadership on employee relations matters and offers guidance as needed.
  • Delivers ongoing performance management support to executive senior leadership (coaching, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Collaborates with the legal department on complex employee relations issues as necessary.
  • Conducts thorough and objective investigations to address and resolve intricate employee relations challenges.
Data Analysis & Strategic Insight
  • Performs continuous analysis of employee/talent data and reports trends, concerns, and successes to senior leadership, including:
    • Position Management
    • Headcount, Turnover, Exit data
    • Internal equity
    • Employee engagement
  • Develops innovative strategies and roadmaps aligned with strategic business objectives.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities, providing strategies to optimize employee performance.
  • Evaluates the employee implications of business decisions and recommends strategies to maintain productivity and engagement.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in an HR Business Partner, Employee Relations, or similar capacity with a focus on collaboration with senior leaders and performance consulting.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%, primarily to the US for team and client engagements.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Craft and implement innovative and proactive solutions to complex challenges;
    • Coach, influence, and build trust among senior management;
    • Effectively plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
    • Collaborate across multiple business functions within Plains;
    • Compile and analyze data using MS Excel and HRIS;
    • Demonstrate strategic thinking and attention to detail;
    • Exhibit sound judgment and experience in assessing business-related risks;
    • Comprehend, interpret, and apply relevant laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies;
    • Thrive in a fast-paced culture;
    • Interpret the needs of stakeholders and business leaders;
    • Contribute to a strong 'team first' environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPHR designation.
  • Experience with Workday HRIS.
