Position Overview

Location: Calgary, AB
Work Structure: Hybrid model available (2 days remote per week)

Role Summary:
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays a crucial role in delivering strategic HR guidance to the leadership team and various business units. This position focuses on aligning human resources initiatives with the overall business strategy, ensuring that HR practices support organizational goals while adhering to Colas Western Canada Inc.'s HR framework.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Management:

  • Collaborate with senior management to support the execution of the company's strategic objectives.
  • Develop and implement annual HR goals and initiatives in line with corporate strategy.
  • Assess workforce needs and organizational requirements through succession planning and demographic analysis.

Workforce Development:

  • Partner with division leaders to create and execute strategic workforce plans.
  • Translate business needs into actionable workforce strategies across short, medium, and long-term horizons.
  • Proactively develop job profiles and recruitment strategies for upcoming roles.

Talent Acquisition:

  • Align recruitment efforts with workforce planning objectives.
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process to attract top talent.
  • Establish partnerships with educational institutions to source future employees.

Onboarding and Integration:

  • Design and implement programs to facilitate the smooth integration of new talent.
  • Coordinate mass orientation sessions for seasonal workforce integration.
Employee Development and Engagement

Development Initiatives:

  • Facilitate employee development programs including performance management and talent development.
  • Analyze performance evaluations to identify high-potential employees and development needs.
  • Support management in performance management processes and talent evaluation cycles.

Retention Strategies:

  • Plan and execute the annual employee engagement survey.
  • Develop action plans based on survey results to enhance employee satisfaction.
  • Collaborate on retention programs to strengthen the company’s reputation as an employer of choice.

Labour Relations:

  • Assist in managing labour relations and participate in collective bargaining as necessary.
  • Engage in labour relations meetings and procedures.

Workplace Environment:

  • Support HR teams with best practices and policy interpretation.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage investigations and mitigate risks.

Change Management:

  • Proactively address business challenges and adapt HR strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure consistent application of best practices across all business units.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and contractual obligations in collaboration with legal counsel.
  • Monitor adherence to company policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications
  • A degree or diploma in Business Administration or Human Resources; CPHR designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a generalist role.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and strong labour relations skills are advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • High energy, resilience, and a results-oriented mindset.
