We are seeking a highly skilled Ecology Research Coordinator to join our team at the University of British Columbia. This role will involve coordinating fieldwork in the Yukon Territory and lab work and data analysis to achieve the research initiatives of the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Global Change Ecology of Northern Ecosystems.

About the Role

">

The successful candidate will have experience in environmental change in Northern ecosystems, with expertise in plant ID, drones or other remote sensing technology. They will be responsible for guiding and assisting Work Learn Students in root picking, time-lapse and drone photo processing and audio recording analysis tasks. Additionally, they will oversee the management of field-collected data, including organization and necessary post-processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate fieldwork in the Yukon Territory and lab work and data analysis to achieve the research initiatives of the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Global Change Ecology of Northern Ecosystems;">
  • Guide and assist Work Learn Students in root picking, time-lapse and drone photo processing and audio recording analysis tasks;">
  • Oversee the management of field-collected data, including organization and necessary post-processing;">
  • Train lab employees and volunteers to carry out lab work to meet lab standards and ensuring adherence to protocols;">
  • Produce a comprehensive summary report detailing field work conducted in the Southern and Interior Yukon regions during the summer of 2024, capturing key findings and insights.">

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in UBC forestry, ecology or related program, with a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They must also be willing to respect diverse perspectives, demonstrate a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

The University of British Columbia offers a competitive salary range of $54,000 - $63,500 per year, depending on experience. In addition to this, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a pension plan.
