About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to fill a tenure-stream position as Assistant Professor in the field of Urban Forest Accessibility at the University of British Columbia. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a strong research program that integrates observations, technologies, and analytical approaches to examine urban forest benefits and reduce accessibility barriers across scales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a high-quality independent research program focused on urban forestry topics that recognize the experiences of diverse and systemically marginalized communities.
  • Engage with communities' experiences through the lens of minority status, racialization, or disability, and conduct research that will inform urban foresters' site-scale decision making.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring in the Faculty of Forestry, with a focus on developing curriculum that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Pursue collaborative, interdisciplinary research and contribute to academic service within the Faculty and the broader community.

Requirements:

  • PhD in environmental science and management, natural resources management, sustainability science, urban forestry, ecology, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated track record of integrative natural science research connecting urban forestry with new technologies, climate science, ecosystem service provision, biodiversity conservation, urban planning, or human well-being.
  • Excellent potential for scientific publishing and securing research grants.
  • Strong interest or experience in conducting collaborative, interdisciplinary work, through existing or proposed research, teaching, leadership, service, community engagement, outreach, or other relevant activities.

The Ideal Candidate:

We seek a scholar who is passionate about promoting accessibility and equity in urban forestry, and has a demonstrated ability to engage with diverse communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong research program that addresses the needs of urban forests and their users, and will be able to contribute to teaching and service within the Faculty of Forestry.

Salary Range:

The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000-$180,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
