Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Research Specialist to join our Epidemiology & Population Health Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the documentation and examination of routinely collected data for research purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and summarize published literature on the use of routinely collected data for research
  • Conduct data examinations to create educational/training materials, inform new analytic approaches, and build documentation
  • Liaise with technical, research, and clinical staff to develop a better understanding of routinely collected data
  • Compile information on the structure, validity, and quality of routinely collected data into manuals and presentations
  • Collaborate with external researchers/technical experts to supplement in-house understandings of how routinely collected data can be leveraged for research purposes
  • Support research staff by reviewing study protocols and resultant abstracts/manuscripts that describe outputs from analyses of routinely collected data
  • Develop and lead data quality, methodologic, and/or validation related research projects for first-author publication

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology or Population/Public Health supplemented by 1-2 years of recent related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer
  • Effective skills in communication (written, oral) of technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience working with routinely collected data, particularly in British Columbia or other Canadian regions
  • Demonstrated understanding of key epidemiologic concepts (e.g., study design, bias, adjustment for confounding) and research concepts more broadly
  • Technical competency managing and analyzing health data with software such as SAS, R, SQL
