Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Academic Policy Officer to join our team at the Manitoba Métis Federation. As an Academic Policy Officer, you will be responsible for operating the Engagement and Consultation process, in accordance with MMF's Resolution No. 8, for all matters that may impact the rights, interests, and claims of the Red River Métis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough research on political/policy-related matters regarding projects, initiatives, agreements, or applicable documents;
  • Draft detailed briefings, letters, proposals, and reports that meet the highest standards;
  • Foster effective engagement and consultation with Proponents/Governments and other stakeholders;
  • Liaise with MMF Departments, Affiliates, and Regions, interacting with subject matter experts, leadership, and Citizens;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Proponents/Governments while advocating for the rights, interests, and claims of the Red River Métis;
  • Maintain internal records of engagement and consultation activities;
  • Plan, attend, and present information at community meetings.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in communications, indigenous studies, social or environmental sciences, natural resources management, or related discipline;
  • Experience in policy and program development, particularly in corporate or governmental settings;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and budgeting software;
  • Excellent public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Bilingualism is an asset;
  • Familiarity with the MMF's Resolution No. 8 process and consultation and engagement processes is preferred;
  • Knowledge of Métis culture and MMF programs and services is beneficial;
  • Ability to travel and possess a valid Manitoba Driver's license.
Salary Information

The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
