Job Summary

The Archaeology Branch is responsible for the protection, conservation, and appreciation of British Columbia's unique archaeological resources in accordance with the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA). The Branch also maintains the Provincial Heritage Register of all known archaeological heritage sites and objects, oversees access to archaeological information, develops policy, and supports and advances negotiations with First Nations.

The Role

The Project Coordinator will provide project management coordination and support for Major Projects and significant provincial initiatives. The projects are high profile in terms of partners interests and ministry goals and have external interfaces and significant implications to protected archaeological sites and relationships with affected Indigenous Communities.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education or training in project management.
  • Experience providing project management support services.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience using MS Office suite of applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc., including formatting and editing letters and documents. Preference may be given for experience creating and maintaining templates.
  • Experience using databases (e.g., entering, updating, and retrieving data, conducting data accuracy checks, conducting searches and extracting information, creating or managing files).
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience providing administrative/clerical services in an office setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education or training in archaeology, anthropology, Indigenous Studies, natural resource management, or GIS.
  • Self-identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit).
  • Have experience working with Indigenous governments or communities.
  • Have experience working within government organizations.
  • Have experience with Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) permitting.
  • Have experience with project management software.
  • Have experience with GIS technology.
About this Position

There are three (3) temporary opportunities until December 31, 2024, that may be extended or become permanent. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies. This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forest offices: Burns Lake, Campbell River, Duncan, Fort Nelson, Mackenzie, Nanaimo, Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
