Position Overview

The Woodfibre LNG Project is strategically located near Squamish, British Columbia, and focuses on the development and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill. This facility is designed to have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and aims to produce approximately 2 million tonnes of LNG annually.

Role Summary

Woodfibre LNG is in search of a Project Director, who will report directly to the Vice President – Projects. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for the comprehensive management of the Woodfibre LNG Project, which encompasses various geographical locations including module fabrication in Qingdao, China, design operations in Houston, USA, and construction activities in Squamish, Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all facets of EPC project execution, ensuring adherence to Safety, Engineering, Quality, Project Controls, Risk Management, Procurement, Contracts, Logistics, and Materials Management.
  • Ensure compliance with the EPC Contract and other internal legal and commercial agreements.
  • Manage the performance of the EPC Contractor, subcontractors, and suppliers effectively.
  • Engage with stakeholders including the Equity Partner, LNG Offtaker, and various internal teams such as Commissioning and Start-Up, Operations, Regulatory and Environmental, Feed Gas Pipeline, LNG Marketing, External Affairs, and Community Relations.
  • Directly manage the execution of the Owner's scope, including temporary marine facilities and external substations with incoming transmission lines.
  • Provide precise reporting on the performance of EPC activities to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement project-specific plans, protocols, and procedures.
  • Manage and apply lessons learned throughout all phases of the project.
  • Supervise team members through effective coaching, delegation, and performance monitoring to ensure optimal resource utilization and adherence to best practices.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Over 20 years of experience in managing major capital projects within the oil and gas sector, holding key roles in project management, project controls, engineering, and construction.
  • Direct management experience in executing complex, large-scale oil and gas projects valued at over $1 billion.
  • A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience managing diverse, multicultural teams across various international settings.
  • Experience with Canadian oil and gas projects and a strong understanding of BC and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • A commitment to championing all aspects of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) across the project.
  • Extensive experience in planning, scheduling, and executing project activities.
  • Proficiency in managing project risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Strong skills in facilitating project progress with external stakeholders.
  • A track record of recognizing and rewarding individual contributions to project success.
