Project Overview:

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated near Squamish, British Columbia, encompassing the design, construction, commissioning, and operational management of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill. This facility is designed to have a floating storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and aims to produce approximately 2.1 million tons of LNG annually.

Position Summary:

Woodfibre LNG is in search of a Project Director who will report directly to the Vice President – Projects. This role will serve as the primary point of accountability for the comprehensive management of the Woodfibre LNG Project, which spans multiple geographical regions including module fabrication in Qingdao, China, design operations in Houston, USA, and construction activities in Squamish, Canada. The Project Director will engage extensively with both internal regulatory and environmental teams, as well as external stakeholders such as equity partners, LNG off-takers, and financial institutions. This senior-level position demands a project management professional adept at overseeing large-scale gas projects exceeding $1 billion from the Owner's perspective. The ideal candidate will possess strategic decision-making capabilities alongside proficient verbal and written communication skills. The primary work location will be in Squamish, with necessary business travel to Houston and China.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all facets of EPC project execution, including Safety, Engineering, Quality, Project Controls, Risk Management, Procurement, Contracts, Logistics, and Materials Management, as well as Module Fabrication and Site Construction (both onshore and marine).
  • Ensuring compliance with the EPC Contract and other internal legal and commercial agreements.
  • Monitoring the performance of the EPC Contractor, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement with the Equity Partner, LNG Offtaker, and various internal teams such as Commissioning and Start-Up, Operations, Regulatory and Environmental, Feed Gas Pipeline, LNG Marketing, External Affairs, and Community Relations.
  • Directly managing the execution of the Owner's scope, including temporary marine facilities and external substations with incoming transmission lines.
  • Providing precise reporting on the performance of EPC activities to all stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing project-specific plans, protocols, and procedures.
  • Managing and applying lessons learned throughout all project phases.
  • Supervising team members through coaching, delegation, and identifying training needs while monitoring performance to ensure optimal resource utilization and adherence to best practices.
  • Recruiting personnel to support successful project execution.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 20 years of project experience in major capital projects within the oil and gas sector, holding key roles in project management, project controls, engineering, and construction.
  • Direct oversight of complex large-scale oil and gas projects valued at over $1 billion, executed by a tier 1 oil and gas EPC Contractor.
  • A minimum of 10 years of direct supervisory experience managing large, diverse, multicultural teams across various international locations.
  • Experience with various contracting strategies, including lump sum turnkey, reimbursable, and unit rates.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Experience in LNG projects.
  • Familiarity with managing Canadian oil and gas projects.
  • Knowledge of BC and Canadian project regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working on the owner's (client) team.
