Project Overview:

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated near Squamish, British Columbia, and encompasses the comprehensive design, construction, commissioning, and operational management of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the historic Woodfibre pulp mill site. This facility is set to feature a floating storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and aims to produce around 2.1 million tons of LNG annually.

Position Summary:

Woodfibre LNG is in search of a Project Director who will report directly to the Vice President – Projects. This role is pivotal as the Project Director will serve as the primary point of accountability for the holistic management of the Woodfibre LNG Project, which spans various geographical locations including module fabrication yards and construction sites. The Project Director will engage extensively with internal regulatory and environmental teams, EPC Contractors, and external stakeholders such as equity partners and financial institutions. This senior-level position demands a project management professional with a proven track record in overseeing large-scale gas projects exceeding $1 billion from the Owner's perspective. The ideal candidate will possess strategic decision-making capabilities alongside exceptional verbal and written communication skills. The main work location will be in Squamish, with required business travel to various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Director will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all facets of EPC project execution, including Safety, Engineering, Quality, Project Controls, Risk Management, Procurement, Contracts, Logistics, and Materials Management.
  • Ensuring compliance with the EPC Contract and other internal legal and commercial agreements.
  • Monitoring the performance of the EPC Contractor, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement with the Equity Partner, LNG Offtaker, and internal teams across various functions.
  • Directly managing the execution of the Owner's scope, including temporary marine facilities and external substations.
  • Providing precise reporting on EPC activity performance to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing project-specific plans, protocols, and procedures.
  • Managing and applying lessons learned throughout all project phases.
  • Supervising team members through effective coaching, delegation, and performance monitoring.
  • Recruiting additional resources to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications:

Essential Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 20 years of experience in major capital projects within the oil and gas sector, holding key roles in project management, project controls, engineering, and construction.
  • Direct oversight of complex large-scale oil and gas projects valued at over $1 billion, executed by a tier 1 oil and gas EPC Contractor.
  • A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience managing diverse, multicultural teams across international locations.
  • Experience with various contracting strategies, including lump sum turnkey and reimbursable contracts.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Experience in LNG projects.
  • Background in managing Canadian oil and gas initiatives.
  • Familiarity with BC and Canadian project regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working on the Owner's team.
