About the OpportunityAs a Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant), you will report to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager and play a crucial role in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered ethical care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.
- Dispensing medications to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose.
- Performing physician order entry and working with automation.
- Managing inventory control and conducting medication reconciliation.
- Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
- Preparing chemotherapy doses and distributing narcotics.
We invite applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital setting, is an asset.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques and special precautions for chemotherapy is advantageous.
- Familiarity with unit dose drug distribution systems and automation technology is beneficial.
- Understanding of medical terminology, inventory control, and record-keeping.
- Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
- Basic typing skills or experience with computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred.

Registered Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
Registered technicians may also qualify for a signing/relocation bonus if successful.
