About the Opportunity

As a Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant), you will report to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager and play a crucial role in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered ethical care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.
  • Dispensing medications to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose.
  • Performing physician order entry and working with automation.
  • Managing inventory control and conducting medication reconciliation.
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
  • Preparing chemotherapy doses and distributing narcotics.
About You

We invite applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital setting, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and special precautions for chemotherapy is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with unit dose drug distribution systems and automation technology is beneficial.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, inventory control, and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
  • Basic typing skills or experience with computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred.

Hours
  • Various permanent, assignments (temporary), and casual relief opportunities available in multiple locations throughout Nova Scotia.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation and Incentives

Registered Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Registered technicians may also qualify for a signing/relocation bonus if successful.
