About the RoleAs a Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant), you will report to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager and play a crucial role in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered ethical care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.
- Dispensing medications to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose.
- Conducting physician order entry and working with automation.
- Managing inventory control and medication reconciliation.
- Preparing chemotherapy doses and distributing narcotics.
- Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
We invite applications from candidates who possess the following:
- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) is required.
- For those without the above qualifications, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within Nova Scotia will be considered.
- Pharmacy Practice Assistants may also be considered if no qualified candidates are available.
- Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) is an asset.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital setting, is advantageous.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques and special precautions related to chemotherapy is beneficial.
- Familiarity with unit dose drug distribution systems and automation technology is a plus.
- Understanding of medical terminology, inventory control, and record-keeping.
- Proven decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Competence in performing mathematical calculations related to medications.
- Awareness of laws and regulations governing the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
- Basic typing skills or experience with computers/keyboard; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred.

Work Hours- Various permanent, temporary assignments, and casual relief opportunities are available in multiple locations throughout Nova Scotia.

Registered Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)
Successful candidates may qualify for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
Note: Registered technicians may be eligible for a signing/relocation bonus upon successful hiring.
