About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager, the Licensed Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant) plays a crucial role in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered ethical care, ensuring that the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and personalized. Responsibilities encompass the preparation, packaging, and dispensing of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Key duties include:

  • Compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
  • Dispensing medications to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose
  • Physician order entry and working with automation
  • Inventory management and medication reconciliation
  • Preparation of chemotherapy doses and distribution of narcotics
  • Participation in quality programs and patient safety initiatives
About You

We welcome applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
  • If no candidates meet the above qualifications, those actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within Nova Scotia will be considered
  • Pharmacy Practice Assistants may also be considered if no qualified candidates are available
  • Technical permit for drug administration by injection (Pharmacy Technician) is an asset
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital setting, is an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and special precautions for chemotherapy is advantageous
  • Experience with unit dose drug distribution systems and automation technology is beneficial
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Understanding of laws and regulations regarding the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred

Hours
  • Various permanent, assignments (temporary), and casual relief (no guarantee of hours) opportunities available in multiple locations throughout Nova Scotia.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • You will be asked to specify your work hours and location preferences in the screening questions that follow.
Compensation and Incentives

Registered Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Registered technicians may be eligible for a signing/relocation bonus if successful.
