About the Role

As a Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant), you will report to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager and play a crucial role in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered ethical care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.
  • Dispensing medications to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose.
  • Conducting physician order entry and working with automation.
  • Managing inventory control and medication reconciliation.
  • Preparing chemotherapy doses and distributing narcotics.
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications

We welcome applicants who possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required.
  • For those without the above qualifications, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within Nova Scotia will be considered.
  • Pharmacy Practice Assistants may also be considered if no qualified candidates are available.
  • Technical permit for drug administration by injection (Pharmacy Technician) is an asset.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital setting, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and precautions related to chemotherapy is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with unit dose drug distribution systems and automation technology is a plus.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, inventory control, and record-keeping.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
  • Basic typing skills or experience with computers; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred.

Work Hours
  • Various permanent, temporary assignments, and casual relief opportunities available in multiple locations throughout Nova Scotia.

Compensation and Benefits

Registered Pharmacy Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)

Successful candidates may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Note: Registered technicians may qualify for a signing/relocation bonus upon successful hiring.
