ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Category Management Specialist is tasked with overseeing the designated category of products, focusing on profitability, sales performance, marketing initiatives, category strategy, vendor negotiations, product selection, and customer service related to the MOI loyalty program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate sales and promotional tactics, including advertising campaigns, themed events, and seasonal promotions to meet category objectives and manage loyalty points effectively.
  • Strategically oversee the loyalty budget concerning MOI points.
  • Define product assortments and negotiate purchasing terms and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain a promotional calendar to optimize sales and profitability.
  • Conduct regular category assessments in relation to MOI points in collaboration with existing category management teams. Implement strategies to ensure market competitiveness while aligning with financial goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing and Loyalty teams to ensure a unified loyalty program.
  • Utilize customer insights data to implement successful loyalty strategies and establish success metrics.
  • Evaluate point systems and values to maintain market competitiveness.
  • Monitor competitive and industry activities, including trends and opportunities, to support continuous improvement and innovation within the category.
  • Perform regular competitive store visits to gather firsthand insights.
  • Adjust category plans as necessary to respond to customer needs.
  • Identify consumer demands and develop loyalty point strategies to address those needs.
  • Maintain communication with Store Managers, Merchandisers, Inventory Managers, and others to resolve inquiries or issues related to products or services in assigned business initiatives.
  • Track market conditions affecting categories within the marketplace.
  • Supervise an assistant, including performance management responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-7 years of experience in merchandising or category management, preferably in the grocery retail sector.
  • A university degree in a business-related field is an asset.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in using the SAP Merchandising Module & BW.
  • Familiarity with Dunnhumby Shop & Nielsen Workstation Plus is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in forecasting.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, results-driven attitude.
