Job Summary

The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patient Food Services Manager to lead our team in delivering exceptional patient care through food services. As a key member of our hospitality team, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and distribution of meals and nourishments, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Human Resource Management:
    • Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
    • Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing team of food service professionals.
    • Manage staffing levels and resource allocation to meet operational demands.
    • Ensure compliance with collective agreement language and unionized staffing requirements.
  • Financial Management:
    • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, monitoring expenses and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve revenue generation and efficiency.
    • Conduct monthly variance analysis and implement corrective action plans to achieve fiscal balance.
  • Patient Food Services Patient Liaison and Safety Officer:
    • Ensure safe food production, handling, and storage practices, adhering to optimal food safety standards.
    • Implement medication dispensing safety management models and IPAC best practices.
    • Liaise with Public Health, Registered Dietitians, Speech Language Pathologists, patients, and unit managers to resolve concerns and recommendations.
    • Provide service recovery through patient rounding and satisfaction surveys.
    • Manage continuous improvement cycles to address concerns and enhance quality and service.
    • Develop and implement departmental strategic planning for quality improvement activities, initiatives, and reporting.
  • Diet Office/Patient Menu Management:
    • Oversee the Diet Office/Patient Menu management, ensuring accurate and safe menu choices.
    • Maintain and support daily operations of the Computrition Diet Manager database.
    • Conduct tray accuracy audits, modified texture consistency audits, and waste audit analysis to ensure menu quality and cost-effectiveness.
    • Develop and implement menu item reviews, tastings, recipe development, patient feedback, and downtime procedures.
  • Departmental Administration Responsibilities:
    • Review and authorize daily staffing timecards and payroll.
    • Assist the Operations Director in decision-making surrounding improvement opportunities in equipment, delivery meal systems, types of service, and staffing requirements.
    • Monitor key performance indicators and risk avoidance strategies.
    • Ensure consistent, high-quality food is served to patients and equipment is functioning properly.
    • Report and monitor quality and safety initiatives.
    Qualifications
    • Education:
      • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Food and Nutrition Management or a related field.
      • Registered Dietitian with a Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition and an accredited comprehensive internship program.
      • Active membership in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario and National Association of Dieticians of Canada.
      • Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
      • Current Advanced Food Safety Training.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of five years Food Service management experience in a unionized, Acute Care Hospital.
      • Minimum of ten years food service, production, and clinical nutrition experience.
      • Demonstrated competency with Computrition Healthcare Foodservice software system.
    • Competencies:
      • Agent of change with ability to envision new concepts, methods, and plans.
      • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
      • Effective leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, mentor, inspire, and direct teams.
      • Ability to delegate and assign work to resources and resolve issues and conflicts.
      • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of safety which encourages prevention and risk/error elimination.
      • Demonstrated understanding of and aptitude for change management with a detailed understanding of implementing new processes in complex healthcare environments.
      • Understanding of budgets and fiscal responsibility.
      • Proven ability to meet deadlines and independently make decisions.
      • Effective communication and presentation skills.
