Primary Objective:

The Underwriter/Senior Underwriter is tasked with evaluating and accepting individual risks to optimize the financial performance of a designated portfolio. This position acts as a crucial liaison for risk placement and retention, serving as a resource for policy pricing, coverage, and administration.

Key Responsibilities:

Growth and Profitability of Assigned Portfolio:

  • Achieve growth and retention targets for the assigned portfolio by: Meeting GWP and New Business objectives through the writing and renewal of profitable target market business, crafting new and renewal proposals to assist producers in account retention and growth, executing strategic initiatives, and employing account rounding and cross-sell strategies.
  • Analyze customer data and account specifics in the underwriting, pricing, proposal, and placement of new accounts and renewal business, ensuring the quality aligns with the Personal Risk Services strategy and underwriting guidelines.
  • Ensure the overall profitability of the assigned portfolio by exercising sound underwriting judgment and adhering to delegated underwriting authority.
  • Review and respond appropriately to findings from risk assessment reports.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of Chubb's product suite and make recommendations for additional coverage and services during the new line, endorsement, and renewal processes.
  • Exhibit technical underwriting expertise and confidence in supporting and articulating Chubb strategies regarding account-specific decisions to internal teams and brokers.
  • Actively promote the value proposition of Chubb Personal Risk Services, positioning Chubb as the preferred market for clients and brokers.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the Personal Risk Service Centre, Regional Underwriters, PRS management, Sales Managers, claims, and all Chubb stakeholders, effectively representing the Chubb brand internally and externally.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and provide mentorship to new hires through formal and informal means.

Portfolio Management:

  • Develop strong brokerage relationships with CSRs, account managers, producers, and PL Managers through exceptional customer service and a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting.
  • Engage in annual broker business planning, contributing to strategic initiatives and executing specific tactics in collaboration with PRS Underwriting and Sales Management.
  • Adhere to all service level standards for referred transactions.
  • Continuously monitor broker trends and results against goals, developing and implementing tactics to enhance performance throughout the year.
  • Conduct meaningful brokerage travel as necessary.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Canadian personal insurance landscape, including competitors' offerings, and share relevant insights with internal stakeholders as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in a Personal Lines role.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An analytical mindset coupled with project management capabilities.
  • Robust technical underwriting skills, including knowledge of personal lines contracts.
  • A proven track record of results and a customer service orientation.
  • Exceptional producer management skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster healthy, long-term relationships with various stakeholders.

The anticipated salary for this role ranges from $75,000 to $115,000, with the specific offer dependent on the applicant's skills, experience, qualifications, expected contributions to the role, and internal equity.
