Key Objective:

The primary responsibility of the Personal Risk Underwriter/Senior Underwriter is to evaluate and accept individual risks to optimize the financial performance of a designated portfolio. This position acts as a crucial liaison for risk placement and retention with Chubb, serving as a knowledgeable resource on policy pricing, coverage options, and administrative processes.

Major Responsibilities:

Enhancing Growth and Profitability of Assigned Portfolio

  • Achieve growth and retention objectives for the assigned portfolio by:
    • Meeting Gross Written Premium (GWP) and New Business targets through the acquisition and renewal of profitable market segments.
    • Creating new and renewal proposals that support producers in retaining and expanding accounts.
    • Implementing strategic initiatives and operational tactics effectively.
    • Utilizing account rounding and cross-selling techniques.
    • Complying with Catastrophe Management strategies.
  • Evaluate customer data and account specifics in the underwriting, pricing, proposal, and placement of new and renewal business, ensuring alignment with the Personal Risk Services strategy and underwriting standards.
  • Guarantee the overall profitability of the assigned portfolio by exercising sound underwriting judgment and adhering to delegated authority.
  • Review and respond appropriately to findings from risk assessment reports.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Chubb's product offerings, making recommendations for additional coverage and services during the initiation, endorsement, and renewal phases.
  • Exhibit technical underwriting expertise and confidence in articulating Chubb's strategies regarding account-specific decisions to internal teams and brokers.
  • Actively advocate for Chubb Personal Risk Services' value proposition, positioning Chubb as the preferred market choice for clients and brokers.
  • Foster positive relationships with the Personal Risk Service Centre, Regional Underwriters, PRS management, Sales Managers, claims teams, and all Chubb stakeholders. Represent the Chubb brand positively both internally and externally, sharing knowledge with colleagues and mentoring new hires.

Portfolio Management

  • Build effective brokerage relationships with Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), account managers, producers, and Personal Lines Managers through exceptional customer service and a solutions-driven approach to underwriting.
  • Engage in annual broker business planning, providing insights on strategic initiatives and executing specific tactics in collaboration with PRS Underwriting and Sales Management.
  • Adhere to all service level standards for referred transactions.
  • Continuously monitor broker trends and performance against goals, developing and implementing specific tactics to enhance results throughout the year.
  • Conduct meaningful and appropriate brokerage travel.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the personal insurance landscape in Canada, including competitors' offerings, and actively share relevant insights with internal stakeholders as necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of underwriting experience in a Personal Lines capacity.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An analytical mindset complemented by project management capabilities.
  • Solid technical underwriting skills, including familiarity with personal lines contracts.
  • A proven track record of results and a customer service-oriented approach.
  • Exceptional producer management skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate healthy, long-term relationships with various stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is approximately $75,000 to $115,000, with the specific offer contingent upon the applicant's skills, experience, qualifications, anticipated contributions to the role, and internal equity considerations.
