Primary Objective:

The main responsibility of the Personal Risk Underwriter/Senior Underwriter is to evaluate and accept individual risks to optimize the financial performance of a designated portfolio. This position acts as a vital liaison for risk placement and retention with Chubb, serving as a resource for policy pricing, coverage, and administration.

Key Responsibilities:

Enhancement and Profitability of Assigned Portfolio

  • Achieve growth and retention targets for the assigned portfolio by:
    • Meeting GWP and New Business objectives through the writing and renewal of profitable target market accounts.
    • Creating new and renewal proposals that aid producers in account retention and expansion.
    • Implementing strategic initiatives and operational tactics.
    • Utilizing account rounding and cross-selling strategies.
    • Complying with Catastrophe Management strategies.
  • Assess customer data and account specifics in the underwriting, pricing, proposal, and placement of new accounts and renewal business, ensuring the quality aligns with the PRS strategy and underwriting standards.
  • Guarantee the overall profitability of the assigned portfolio by exercising sound underwriting judgment and adhering to delegated underwriting authority.
  • Review and appropriately respond to findings from risk assessment reports.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Chubb's product offerings. Recommend additional coverage and services during the new line, endorsement, and renewal processes.
  • Exhibit technical underwriting expertise and confidence in supporting and articulating Chubb strategies regarding account-specific decisions to internal stakeholders and brokers.
  • Actively advocate for Chubb Personal Risk Services' value proposition, positioning Chubb as the preferred market for clients and brokers.
  • Collaborate effectively and cultivate positive relationships with the Personal Risk Service Centre, Regional Underwriters, PRS management, Sales Managers, claims, and all Chubb stakeholders. Represent the Chubb brand positively both internally and externally. Share knowledge with team members and provide mentorship to new hires.

Portfolio Management

  • Establish effective brokerage relationships with CSRs, account managers, producers, and PL Managers through exemplary customer service and a solutions-focused approach to underwriting.
  • Engage in annual broker business planning, contributing to strategic initiatives and executing specific tactics in partnership with PRS Underwriting and Sales Management.
  • Adhere to all service level standards for referred transactions.
  • Continuously monitor broker trends and results against goals, developing and implementing specific tactics to enhance results throughout the year.
  • Conduct meaningful and appropriate brokerage travel.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of the Canadian personal insurance landscape, including competitors' products and services, and actively share relevant insights with internal stakeholders as appropriate.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of underwriting experience in a Personal Lines capacity.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An analytical mindset complemented by project management capabilities.
  • Robust technical underwriting skills, including knowledge of personal lines contracts.
  • A proven track record of results and a customer service orientation.
  • Exceptional producer management skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster healthy and long-term relationships with various stakeholders.

The estimated salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $115,000. The specific offer will be contingent upon the applicant's skills and other factors, including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contributions to the role, location, and internal equity.
