Position Overview

The role of the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) exemplifies clinical proficiency and adheres to the core competencies outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), along with the policies and procedures established by Southlake Regional Health Centre. The RPN collaborates effectively as part of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care in accordance with the standards set forth by the CNO. These elements influence decision-making regarding care-provider assignments and the necessity for consultation and teamwork among healthcare professionals. All nursing staff are committed to continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RPN scope of practice, utilizing the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Adhere to established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  • Ensure practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide care for patients with complex health conditions.
  • Work alongside other members of the interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Provide consultation and clinical support to colleagues as required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of the Plan of Care, evaluating its effectiveness regularly.
  • Support the orientation and training of new staff members and students within clinical units.
  • Act as a role model, promoting safe and exemplary practices in daily activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or delegate.

Qualifications

  • Current RPN registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Recent experience with pre and post-surgical patients is preferred.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem assessment abilities.
