Position Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) exemplifies clinical proficiency and adheres to the core competencies as set forth by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), alongside the established policies and procedures of Southlake Regional Health Centre. The LPN collaborates effectively as part of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care grounded in the three-factor framework outlined by the CNO, which includes the Client, Nurse, and Environment. These elements significantly influence decision-making regarding care assignments and the necessity for interprofessional collaboration.
Our state-of-the-art 12-bed Regional Paediatric unit is designed to provide exceptional family-centered care for our young patients, addressing needs such as Eating Disorders and Paediatric oncology.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver patient and family-centered care within the LPN scope of practice, utilizing the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Adhere to established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
• Ensure compliance with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and legislation.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
• Collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex health conditions.
• Work in partnership with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team.
• Offer consultation and clinical support to colleagues as required.
• Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
• Assist in developing and implementing the Plan of Care, evaluating its effectiveness.
• Support the orientation and training of new staff members and students.
• Serve as a role model, promoting safe and exemplary practices in daily activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or delegate.
Qualifications and Skills
• Recent experience in Paediatrics (within the last five years) is required.
• Familiarity with Juvenile Diabetes, Childhood Asthma, Eating Disorders, and Depression is preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and organize tasks based on patient needs.
• Capability to function within the full scope of nursing practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Dedication to patient and family-centered care and teamwork.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities.
• Understanding and compliance with safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.

Educational Requirements
• RPN diploma from an accredited nursing program.
• RPN Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification is required or must be obtained within three months of hire.
• Completion of a breastfeeding course is required.
• Paediatrics Assessment Course is preferred.
• Education in breastfeeding is preferred.
