Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) exemplifies clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), alongside the policies and procedures established by Southlake Regional Health Centre. The LPN collaborates effectively as a vital member of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care grounded in the three-factor framework defined by the CNO standard, which includes the Client, Nurse, and Environment. These elements significantly influence decision-making regarding care assignments and the necessity for consultation and collaboration among healthcare providers. All nursing professionals are committed to continuous learning.

Our state-of-the-art 12-bed Regional Paediatric unit provides exceptional family-centered care for our young patients, addressing needs such as Eating Disorders and Paediatric oncology.

Key Responsibilities


• Deliver patient and family-centered care within the LPN scope of practice, adhering to the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Operate in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.

• Ensure that practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation.

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.

• Collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex health conditions.

• Work in partnership with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team.

• Offer consultation and/or clinical support to colleagues as required.

• Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.

• Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.

• Support the orientation and preceptorship of new staff members and students within the clinical units.

• Serve as a role model and advocate for the integration of safe, best practices into daily operations to ensure exemplary care delivery.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or delegate.

Skills & Qualifications


• Recent experience in Paediatrics (within the last five years) is required.

• Knowledge and experience (within the last five years) in Juvenile Diabetes, Childhood Asthma, Eating Disorders, and Depression are preferred.

• Ability to prioritize and organize work in response to patient/client needs.

• Capability to operate within the full scope of nursing practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Commitment to patient and family-centered care and teamwork.

• Individual leadership skills are essential.

• Understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies that promote a safe and inclusive environment for all.

• Proficient knowledge of Electronic Documentation.

• Dedication to providing an exceptional experience for patients, families, and other healthcare team members within a dynamic healthcare setting.

Qualifications


• RPN diploma from an accredited nursing school.

• RPN Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Current BLS certification is required.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certificate (NRP) is required or must be obtained within three months of hire.

• Course in breastfeeding is required.

• Paediatrics Assessment Course is preferred.

• Education in breastfeeding is preferred.
