Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Culinary Service Associate
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Culinary Service Associate to become part of the Food Productions team. The ideal candidate will possess a self-driven attitude and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively. This is a CASUAL/ON-CALL position. We are consistently looking to build a strong pool of casual staff. This role is within a unionized environment, and all job openings are posted internally for current employees. Working additional hours as a casual staff member will accumulate seniority hours, providing more opportunities for internal job applications.
Responsibilities of the Culinary Service Associate at VCH include:
Executing various tasks in accordance with Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards, such as: serving and portioning meals, washing and peeling fruits and vegetables, preparing beverages and light food items, cleaning dishes and utensils. portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads, preparing and portioning diet-specific items as per nutritional guidelines, and measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients through methods like grinding, blending, slicing, dicing, and pureeing. Verifying patient/resident meals/trays for dietary compliance. Cleaning food wagons, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, and storage areas, as well as wiping down tables and counters; responsibilities also include sweeping and mopping floors and disposing of waste. Performing related clerical tasks. Operating a cash register and related equipment, processing payments, and providing change for purchases. Addressing customer inquiries.Qualifications
Education & Experience
Completion of Food Safe Certificate Level 1. Minimum of Grade 10 education plus one year of recent, relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Knowledge & Skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact positively with others. Physical capability to perform the duties of the role. Strong organizational skills. Proficiency in operating related equipment.Additional Information
Work hours, including days off and work areas, may be subject to change based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
