Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to become part of our dynamic Short Stay Unit team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care to our surgical patients.
Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Short Stay Unit include:
- Conducting assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a designated group of surgical patients.
- Engaging in discharge planning, advocating for clients, and educating patients and their families on health promotion and wellness.
- Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of patients and their families.
- Documenting care provided and addressing incidents in line with established policies and procedures.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Maintaining and advancing personal clinical skills and knowledge.
- Participating in hospital committees, teams, and approved research initiatives as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Skills & Competencies
- Proven nursing practice skills related to the designated patient group.
- Ability to adapt to unexpected situations, prioritize tasks, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficient in counseling and educating patients and their families.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities through initiative and independence.
- Competence in clinical techniques and the use of relevant medical equipment.
- Skilled in CPR techniques.
- Ability to operate necessary equipment, including computerized patient care systems.
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

The work schedule, including days off and work area, may vary based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations.
