About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Nursing Assistant II, Surgical Day Care Specialist to join our team at BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre. As a key member of our surgical day care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our procedure rooms and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and position equipment and accessories in procedure rooms, including procedure trays, tables, and suction equipment, by checking procedure slates, identifying written equipment requirements, and determining additional accessories needed.
  • Clean instruments by rinsing, identifying, and placing them on an open tray for return to the Sterile Processing Department, and report any missing instruments to the Nurse Clinician.
  • Clean floors, walls, doors, sinks, and furniture, including patient care equipment, following established cleaning procedures, such as dusting, wiping, damp mopping, spot washing, and disinfecting as required.
  • Change, clean, and remake SDC beds, empty and clean waste containers, and remove garbage from rooms, as well as empty and dispose of linen bags, following established procedures as required, and report any concerns to the Nurse Clinicians.
  • Restock procedure rooms with medical and surgical supplies and clean and store specialized equipment, such as suction, pulse oximeters, and pumps, per established procedures.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
  • Mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC (2015), and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
